I knew It! The Bee Gees ARE Satanic!

Random Musings Header

How else can you explain how groovy they are?  It turns out that before they were giving us all Saturday Night Fever, the Gibb brothers were a heavy metal band called the British Ghouls.  They put out an album called Satanic Royalty in 1964, covering topics such as satanism, Nazis, and zombies.

I’ll never be able to listen to “Staying Alive” the same again.

(and FYI – check out the date the above page was created. I just found it now and had to post it because I thought it was hilarious).

Migration Complete. Time To Make This Thing Active

Random Musings Header

I finally got my random work blogs uploaded here.  Most of them are under “Random Musings”, and yes – they are random.  Also, I updated my post on fulfilling childhood dreams with a scan of a drawing I did in 1st or 2nd grade to show you how much I love that recent pic of me in pilot seat.  To further illustrate how stoked I was about the whole aircraft carrier visit, here is another scan from my childhood:

My Drawing of an Aircraft Carrier

I drew aircraft carriers all the time.  And I even had a plastic model.  The name of this ship was the USS Matthew, naturally.

Lent is Over, Time to Overdose on Dr. Pepper

Beggar's Table Banner

I know this is going to sound wimpy, but I decided to give up Dr. Pepper for Lent.  My first Lent ever, I must point out.  I didn’t grow up in church, and the churches I have been involved in since I started going to church are all modern churches that didn’t have much use for liturgy.  Until, that is, Katie and I started going to a Vineyard church.  They are modern and all, but they have also decided to try following a traditional church calendar to connect with a larger, richer church tradition.

I have to say, I kinda like it.

I still don’t totally get what I am doing half the time, but I like it.

Anyways… so back to Dr. Pepper… that is what I wanted to give up.  Seemed silly, until the first time I actually wanted a DP.  Then it got hard.  Especially since it was all voluntary.  I could have just called it a day and had my DP.  I wouldn’t really hurt or help any one either way, right?

But… I stuck with it, and I have to say – it was pretty durn hard to stay away from the best drink in the world.  And I kept on wanting to get one, kept putting that aside.  And then I get to Easter, and finally get to have the wondrous fruity sugary goodness of 23 mystery flavors.

And nothing.

It was good and all, but to be honest, I think I don’t need it anymore.

I guess that is the point of Lent.  Learning that all you really need in life is God.

Now to burn down my altar to the great Dr.  It no longer holds my attention.

Fulfilling Random Childhood Dreams

Random Musings Header

Did you ever do something as a child, and then really just forget about it as you “grew up”?  Not like some big huge dream or goal or activity, but just some little thing that you really enjoyed at the time?  One of those things for me was drawing the Saturn V rocket.  I drew that thing over and over again.  It was so cool to me.  Last year, i was in Galveston and got to visit NASA.  I saw an actual Saturn V rocket up close and got to touch it.  Moments like that are pretty cool.  I never thought about getting to see a Saturn V rocket, but once I got the chance I felt like a kid again.

So, this week gave me a feew more opportunities to connect with my inner child in few ways.  I also used to draw Navy aircraft carriers, as well a close-up pictures of jet fighter pilots in the cockpit of their airplanes.  While I was at a work conference in Corpus Christi this week, I got to go on the USS Lexington.  It was at night, but we got to walk all over it, including up on the bridge. Pretty cool.  They also had a jet plane display that you could do this:

Me in a Jet Cockpit Model

UPDATE: here is the scan of what I used to draw all the time as a kid:

My drawing of a Blue Jet Plane

You might wonder why the dude has a red cape and blue face? Because he is a superhero ninja pilot, of course….

Connecting with your inner kid like that is such a blast.
