NUTN Conference in Utah

Katie and Matt Blog

Recently I got to go to a great conference in Park City, Utah. Park City is where they have the Sundance festival and where they had the 2002 Winter Olympics. I love the mountains. Park City is about a 30 minute drive east of Salt Lake City up into the mountains. NUTN was held at a beautiful resort. It was a great conference – got to hear from speakers from Apple, Microsoft, and Sun Microsystems, among others. I also presented a session about the future of the Internet. Conference activities included a trip to historic downtown Park City, a gondola ride up the mountain for an awards dinner, a geocaching activity, and some great food.

Another Free Plug

My wife makes fun of me for always writing about restaurants in this blog. So, I thought I would expand my boundaries a bit and write about a Bed & Breakfast.

Our experiences with B&B’s haven’t been that great. Some were good, but never spectacular. Well, we finally had a great experience at the St. Botolph Inn of Weatherford, TX:

I’ve noticed that a lot of B&B’s just take some old house and remodel it. Even if there is nothing special about the house. This B&B was in an awesome house, on a big hill, and with a great history.

We were there to celebrate our 5th anniversary. Marriage keeps getting better every year. I know some people think it’s all downhill after the first year. But we disagree. We have had to put in a lot of hard work to make it improve, but it has happen. When God puts two people together, he knows what he is doing. If you aren’t working out, then you are the one that is missing it. I have found that out so many times – if something isn’t working out right, the problem is usually me and not the other person, especially my wife.

Are We Going Down in Flames?

We had a whirlwind trip to El Paso this weekend. It started off with a bang – flying through a thunderstorm. You gotta wonder about your safety when the hostess (in the middle of drink service) picks up that phone thing that they talk to each other with, her eyes get huge, and then she bolts for her seat and buckles in. I think that was the bumpiest ride I have ever been on. Over the weekend we went to a baby shower, an Indian wedding, a graduation brunch, and a graduation ceremony. Katie had the funniest event of the weekend. A guy came and asked our table how the food was – and Katie asked him if we could have more rice. The funny thing was, this guy was the head chef! He looked so shocked by the request! It was a good laugh.

Little India

Little India

We had another good weekend in the Dallas area. We found a place that some call “Little India.” It was basically a strip mall that had 4 Indian restaurants, 3 Indian clothes stores, and a handful of Indian grocery and video stores. One of the grocery stores had a grill in back that was packed with people eating and chatting. It was great. You can’t find stuff like that where we live now. We’ll probably spend a lot of time in Little India.

I also remember driving along a highway somewhere and seeing a restaurant that was simply called “African Cuisine.” I have no idea if it is authentic African food, but sounds fun to me.

Finally a Small Vacation

We had a great time this last weekend on a trip to Round Rock and San Antonio. San Antonio is one of our favorite cities to visit in Texas. All we really do is hang out on the River-walk and eat, but we love it. We actually took the River-walk boat tour this year, though. We have some big news to announce soon, so we’ll have a newsletter or an announcement here or something out soon (we hope 🙂 ) But, just to stop any rumors, we are not pregnant. It’s something else.
