The Remodeling Journals: Kitchen is Done and French Doors are In

Katie and Matt Blog

The fast-paced, break neck speed of remodeling has continued this weekend – we are cleaning out the back room even! The french doors are finally in place and all the molding is up. The kitchen back-splash is done and we actually have handles on all our drawers! The promised newsletter is still coming. We have it ready, we just need to stop remodeling enough to sit down and send it out.

Our new newsletter is up, with the big news in it. If you don’t have the password to see it, we will be sending it out soon, along with a text version of the newsletter. We spent the weekend making more progress on the house. The laundry room finally has a new floor, and a lot more of the molding has been finished in the front bedroom and the back living room.

We are still working slowly on our kitchen. We now have blinds, a window sill, and some back splash ideas. Just got to get working. Our puppy found a way to climb her gate and escape, so we got one of those pre-made sections of tall wood fencing and foiled her little plot! Someday it will be made into an actual gate… we hope.

We haven’t worked much on the house this week due to a retreat. We did break out two tiles that were slightly off-colored and replaced them, but that is about it. We had a pretty good retreat, even though it was cold and we had to sleep in separate dorms 🙁 But the retreat center was in the piney woods around Huntsville, so at least there was a lot of beautiful scenery.

The Remodeling Journals: Seven Layers of Floor Make One Long Project

We got to finally get some more work done on our house – the kitchen floor! We had to remove a couple of layers first – 2 layers of linoleum, 1 layer of fiber-wood, and 1 layer of tile – to get to the sub floor. The tile was this really old tile that look like an orange topographic map. Today we will start laying down some tile. We also installed an electric doggie fence that is doing a great job keep our puppy from escaping!
