1. Analyze Web Messages

You are probably familiar with the funny TV commercials that some alcohol companies show on television. What you might not know is that these commercials, and many other forms of advertising, don’t give you a realistic picture of what alcohol or tobacco use is really like. Visit the following sites and look at the tobacco or alcohol messages in them:

Now answer the questions on the “What Did They Really Say?” worksheet. If you don’t have a copy of the worksheet, click here to download a copy to print out (pdf file: 11 KB).

2. Identify False Messages

Now that you are beginning to see what false messages are in some advertising, its time to start identifying them. First, look at the following web site:

What is BADvertising?

Look for the section called “BADvertising is Truth through Contradiction” and read it.

Now go to the following website again:

On the back of your “What Did They Really Say?” worksheet, answer the following question: What are the false messages that are being advertised on this site?

3. Lesson 9 Blog Entry

Go to the Health Online Blog to add a new blog entry about what you have learned in this lesson. Include everything that you answered on the “Nutrition Plan Analysis” worksheet.
