Update on Life

Katie and Matt Blog

It’s been a while since I’ve put anything up about our life, so here’s a quick update:

New food:
I have really developed a taste for Salt & Vinegar chips, Coconut Sobe, and dark chocolate. We recently bought a grill, so Katie has been coming up with all kinds of yummy grilled recipes. I’ve also discovered Mongolian Grills, while Katie is always finding some great Indian places to eat at.

Side jobs:
I have been working on our church’s website (http://www.mercyplace.org). I also designed a site for UT Brownsville’s School of Education (http://soe2.utb.edu). I also helped Nashville State Community College finish up a site that was mostly done (http://www.thecasefiles.org).

Music:
I recently scored the 2-disc special edition of U2’s Best of 1980-1990 from Ebay for $4. Man, awesome collection of hits and B-sides. I also got a CD by a guy named Christopher Lee Freeman, who does a mixture of sitar music with hard rock. Nice. I’m also awaiting the release of Kula Shaker‘s 3rd album. They are a Hindu rock band that my Mom actually turned me on to a couple of years ago. That’s all stuff that Katie and like to listen to. I love to piddle around MySpace and listen to buzz bands like Gnarls Barkley and OkGo. And metal bands like Firewind or Rob Rock 🙂

Entertainment:
We have checked out a new show called Heroes. It’s a really good show. My wife doesn’t always watch it, but I love it. We are also loving this year’s Amazing Race. I’m still trying to get into Lost, but it’s hard. I just can’t take weirdness for weirdness sake. I am starting to become a Stargate junkie, so I better back off from that (SG-1 and Atlantis). We also rented Serenity recently. A really good sci-fi movie, and even Katie said she enjoyed it. Uhhh… other than that, I can’t remember any good movies we’ve seen recently. Just a hand full of mediocre ones.

Random Other Stuff:
I have a MySpace page now.

  1. Hi Matt! Thanks for the update. A few responses… School: Kudos to Katie — I hear (mostly from Darren) that working on your Ph.D. is tough and requires a huge amount of dedication. (Something I’m not yet ready or willing to think about possibly doing yet.) And good for you — you’re so close to finishing up that Masters! Life: Y’know, if you lived/worked up near Richardson, you’d have several folks who’d be happy to hang out with you two. (hint! hint!) New Food: Katie might have already found it, but there is a *great* Indian place in Arlington on Park Row (?), I think. Jenny knows about it — she took Sunny and me there one time. It has a *great* lunch buffet, which is great for trying out different dishes. Music: Congrats on the cheap U2 cd — definitely a steal! I love the b-sides – one of my favorites is “Love Comes Tumbling” — The Edge is just a genius. I’ve never really listened much to sitar music (other than the little that is in Beatles music). I’ll have to explore. Entertainment: Darren told me I need to check out Heroes. Last night, I recorded the second show, and later on Scifi they re-aired the pilot. My hubby Roy was also interested in checking it out. So, we’ll probably add this to our list of must-see-tv. Some good movies you might enjoy: “Thank you for smoking”, “Little Miss Sunshine”, and “Everything is Illuminated”.

  2. Oh – you reminded me of a good movie I have seen recently. Serenety, duh! I updated the post with that. Anyway – we have tried the Indian place on Park Row. Lunch buffet was good, dinner was okay. Tabla in Las Colinas is the best so far. something else I was going to say. Oh, yeah – Chris Freeman is the guy who did the song on my MySpace page.

  3. *sniff* I’m so proud of you two. Two more Browncoats. 😛 Re: Tabla — haven’t tried that one. Where is it in Las Colinas? That’s not too far away from Carrollton.

  4. It’s on MacArthur. Way norht Las Colinas. We usually take 35 to 183 to 114, and then exit MacArthur. North on MacArthur, over 166, in a strip mall on the left (before you hit 635). It’s easily missed 0 kind of hidden. There’s also another good Indian place a few blocks south on MacArthur called Chaat Cafe. Anyway, here’s the web site: http://www.tablaindianbistro.com/

  5. That’s not too far from us at all. We’ll have to try it out. Oh, and there’s a Chaat I pass by every day on the way home from work at Preston and Frankford. We’ll have to try that one as well.
