Falling – Watercolor from an original photograph. This is simply the side of an old barn on a country farm. The boards might look twisted and weird, but that is how the original barn looked. This was created in a summer painting course in college – we would go to some location around town on Monday to take pictures, do a one hour photo development that night, pick one to paint the next day, and spend the rest of the week painting it.
Self-Mapped Learning Pathways Diagram
The current idea of Self-Mapped Learning Pathways has evolved into a complex idea of how learners can map a learning pathway through different complex options.. This is a diagram I created to explain how that process works. This is based on the original diagram of Dual-Layer MOOCs that was a bit more idealistic in scope.
Lifesavers – Dog Days of an Indian Summer
Before the Lifesavers albums was called Heaven High, the original working title was Dog Days of an Indian Summer. This was the working artwork before the name change. I tried to mimmic the lines on surfboards around the image, as well as use a 60s-surfish font.
Life Savers Pointillism
Back when I was studying to be an art teacher, one of my courses did a pointillism assignment. I saw a half opened-pack of Life Savers that looked interesting… and millions of dots later…
Dual-Layer MOOC Diagram
When we first came up with the idea of Self-Mapped Learning Pathways, it was called the “Dual-Layer MOOC” because it was a Massive Open Online Course that allowed learners to choose between two layers. This is a diagram I created to explain how that works in theory. The reality is a bit messier than this, so I also created a diagram to show that as well.
Waterfall
I use this one a lot in my personal websites. Its one of my favorite spontaneous photos I have taken. This is on the road down from Darjeeling, India. The rainy season had started, so there were a few waterfalls along the road that came to life. This one was one of the prettiest, and someone I got a perfect shot out of the bus when it stopped to let another vehicle by on the treacherous one lane, two direction roads through the foothills of the Himalayas.
Random Sketches 1
I like to doodle while in meetings, classes, trainings, etc to stay focused. These can get quite detailed and elaborate depending on the length of time I have. This is a set of some of my favorites – a candle doodle on one side and a lightning doodle on the other.
Upward
Picture that I took in a summer painting course while we were looking for subjects to paint – we would go to some location around town on Monday to take pictures, do a one hour photo development that night, pick one to paint the next day, and spend the rest of the week painting it. This is one of many I didn’t paint. I believe it was at the same farm that produced the Falling painting.
Strung Gurus – Chelsea’s Chasin’ Dragons EP
Graphic Art. This is a quick cover I put together with stock art and some funky fonts. Strung Gurus was a collaboration between Michael Knott of Aunt Bettys and Dennis Danell of Social Distortion. Sadly, Danell passed away before the project was completed. This EP is all that has been released. You can stream or purchase the EP at blondevinyl.bandcamp.com/album/chelseas-chasin-dragons-e-p.
I also put together a back cover for a physical release, but that never happened:
L.S.U. – This is the Healing Vinyl
Graphic Art. This is a painting that I add titles to for the vinyl re-issue of this album. I also designed the back cover (below) and inside layout as well. The vinyl is currently sold out, but you can listen to or purchase the digital version at youngearthrecords.bandcamp.com/album/this-is-the-healing-vinyl-pre-order.
All Things Point to Their Creator
All Things Point to Their Creator – digital manipulation of a satellite image. As you can probably see, this was an image of North Africa and Europe. Not the best one I have ever done, but the first that worked at some level.
Looking Outside
Looking Outside – Watercolor from an original photograph. Even though the title is opposite of Looking Inside, it’s really not even from the same city. This is from another photograph of Crawford, Texas. This building is now gone, too. This picture speaks to me of looking outside of our lives to the interest of others. We find that life is a lot brighter when we look to others interests.
