Lesson 10 »

Instructional Goal

Students will analyze popular media advertising for inappropriate messages concerning drugs and alcohol.  An analysis of web sites will help students gain insight into media messages.  Students will use information gained to create a blog entry about media messages.

First Level Task Analysis

1.  Analyze web messages
2.  Identify false messages
3.  Record facts

Domain of Learning

The type of objective for the overall learning goal for this instructional lesson is intellectual.  The learner will look at web sites that contain inappropriate messages about alcohol and drugs, and then analyze these messages to explore truth.

Peer Evaluation

The goal statement was review by a peer who has experience in the field of health education studies.  She has been teaching both adults and children for the past few years.  As for education, my peer has a graduate degree in health education.  My peer was able to follow the first level task analysis of my lesson.  My peer recommended that a worksheet be provided for the students to help guide them in their analysis of the inappropriate messages, since they may have been influenced to think otherwise about these messages.  Also, the influence of peers on this subject may make some students ignore the obvious slant of some messages.
