Dr. Peggy Semingson
Dr. Semingson is an Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Instruction. She teaches courses (mostly online) at the undergraduate and graduate level in Literacy Studies. Her primary area of focus in teaching includes elementary literacy instruction as well as courses in writing pedagogies at the K-12 level. Her research interests include the ways that we can use digital pedagogies to engage pre-service and in-service teachers to most effectively help them to teach literacy in their current and future classroom settings. Within this area, she is interested in socially distributed knowledge sharing that takes place online, distributed cognition, and video-mediated (e.g., YouTube) discussion and dialogue.

Learning online, when done well, can be a rich and effective experience for both teachers and students. To date, online learning has largely ignored the value of synchronous (live) instruction and facilitation.
