Lesson 7: Analyze Nutrition Plan
Lesson 8 »

Before the Lesson:
Print out one copy of the How Did Your Nutrition Plan Go? handout {PDF, 12 kb] for each student.

You will also need to prepare questions for a short discussion about how learners felt as they went through the first week of their nutrition plan. Also, be prepared to answer questions related to lesson content.

Instructional Steps:
1.  Discussion about how learners felt as they went through the first week of their nutrition plan
2.  Analyze nutrition calendar – learners will be answering questions on an analysis worksheet.  This worksheet will help guide the learners through the analysis process.
3.  Analyze partner’s nutrition worksheet – learners will then trade plans with another partner, and analyze these on their own.  Learners will need to find three strengths in their partner’s plan, and three areas for improvement.
4.  Update nutrition plan – learners will read their partner’s analysis, and then make changes to their plan based on the feedback they receive.

Overview:

Pre-instructional Activities:
The lesson will begin with a motivational activity to gain the learner’s interest.  The activity will begin with a short discussion about how learners felt as they went through the first week of their nutrition plan.

Content Presentation:
After the learners are logged in to the class, the rest of the activity is self-guided.  Learners will be able to download and print up a copy of the worksheet that they need to use in analyzing their nutrition plans.

Learner Participation:
Learners will answer the questions on their nutrition plan worksheet.  Learners will then exchange plans and find the strengths and areas of improvements for someone else’s plan.  Learners will finally be responsible for making changes to their nutrition plan based on the feedback they receive.

Assessment:
The learner will demonstrate to the instructor that he/she is successful by providing feedback to another learner, and by making changes to their own personal plan based on feedback.

Post-Instructional Activities
Learners will continue to follow their nutrition plan.  They will again be evaluating how well this plan worked in the next lesson.

Grading Rubric:
100 Points Possible

Students will identify three strengths and three areas for improvement in their personal nutrition plan based on a peer review.  The three areas of improvement will need to be integrated into the new nutrition plan.  Deduct ten points for each strength or improvement not listed, and also for each improvement not integrated into the revised nutrition plan.
