Great article. I know what you mean about the arrogance thing. I know that I can come across that way, and I try to do everything in power not to. It even drives me crazy when people say things like, “You need to read this book.”

“Oh, do I? You know exactly what it is that I need, huh?”

See, I’m really overly touchy that way.

The best teaching I’ve ever heard about this Heaven-Hell-other religions issue was from Erwin McManus. Some of his sermons are the best I’ve ever heard. He explains the position of God on this that simultaneous shows how incredibly loving and merciful God is, and makes many Christians seem quite shameful at the same time.

A small part of his point is about how excited some Christians seem to be about those who don’t know Jesus going to Hell. John 3 shows how Jesus came into the world “not to condemn the world,” and Jesus tells the woman caught in adultery that he wouldn’t condemn her.

If Jesus wouldn’t then I want to be really careful about getting myself in front of him. I hope to always be the last one to throw the stone.

I usually am not.
