Introduction

Up until this point, we have been focusing on strategies for pivoting your teaching to online – whether that be designing your course, finding or creating resources, or fostering interaction. This week, we focus on online assessment strategies and the considerations to make when changing your assessments. As assessment of students has a “meta-component” – namely, helping students to better manage their goal setting and progress monitoring, we also explore how students learn, or the cognitive science of learning. We have a number of interviews this week with prominent researchers sharing strategies for supporting effective student learning.

After completing this module, participants will be able to:

  • Explore how students learn and how the cognitive science of learning helps inform successful learning and teaching strategies
  • Consider what supports are available to help move online quickly and effectively
  • Identify online assessment strategies suitable for their course
  • Describe what needs to be considered when changing your assessment mode or type for online learning
