Lesson 1: Body Type Research

Lesson 2 »

Steps:
1. Register for Moodle account – learners will need to go to the web site for this class and create an account in Moodle.  They will then register for the online class.
2. Search for facts online – learners will view a lesson on how to perform a good Internet search.
3. Find appropriate sites – after viewing a lesson on what appropriate sites are for Internet research, learners will begin their search for facts about body type.
4. Record facts – learners will record the facts that they find.
5. Determine body type – learners will go to a site about BMI and follow the steps for determining their body type
6.  All information from this lesson will be recorded in a Moodle blog tool.

Overview:

Pre-instructional Activities:
The lesson will begin with a motivational activity to gain the learner’s interest.  The activity will begin with a short presentation on how overweight and obesity issues can affect everyone’s life.  This will be followed by a brief description of the tool to be used (Moodle), and a short guided registration time.

Content Presentation:
After the learners are registered for the class, the rest of the activity is self-guided.  Questions about Internet searches or the appropriateness of sites found need to be directed back to the online lessons.  Learners are free to skip these if they feel that they know the information in them, but any questions about these processes should be directed back to the lessons.

Learner Participation:
The learner will guide themselves through web searches for the proper information.  Learners will be responsible for recording facts that they need as they conduct the search.  Learners are also responsible for going through the lessons and activities online.

Assessment:
The learner will demonstrate to the instructor that he/she is successful by completing all required elements on the Lesson 1 grading rubric.

Post-Instructional Activities
Learners will write down all exercise (planned or informal) that they participate in during the next week.
